Understanding COMEDK 2026 Round 3 Allotment
Round 3 is the third of four planned rounds in COMEDK's (Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka) UGET counselling for 2026, which allots merit-based Convener Quota seats across roughly 150+ private engineering colleges in Karnataka. Unlike KCET, which is restricted to Karnataka-linked candidates through various eligibility routes, COMEDK counselling remains open to candidates from any Indian state, with no domicile requirement — making Round 3 relevant to a genuinely nationwide applicant pool.
Eligibility in Round 3 covers candidates who accepted a Round 1 or Round 2 seat under the Upgrade option and are still hoping for a better allotment, plus anyone who remains unallotted from earlier rounds. Because Upgrade guarantees your current seat as a floor — you cannot be moved to something worse — there is little downside to continuing to select it through Round 3 unless you have already secured your first-choice college and branch. Candidates who chose Freeze in Round 1 or Round 2 do not participate in Round 3 at all; their admission is already locked in.
Seat availability by Round 3 looks noticeably different from Round 1. Flagship colleges — RV College of Engineering, MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, BMS College of Engineering, PES University — are almost always fully subscribed for their top CSE and ISE branches by this stage. Round 3 vacancies concentrate instead in colleges just below this top tier, newer or less-established campuses, and branches that see lower initial demand such as Civil or Mechanical Engineering, even at otherwise well-regarded institutes. Occasionally, a Round 1 or Round 2 allottee at a strong college fails to report or upgrades elsewhere, freeing up a genuinely competitive seat — but this is the exception rather than a pattern to rely on.
As with earlier rounds, remember that COMEDK's Round 3 seat matrix reflects only the Convener Quota share of each college's total intake — NRI and management-quota seats at the same colleges are filled separately by the institutions themselves and do not appear in COMEDK's published vacancy figures. If you're weighing whether to keep floating through Round 3 versus exploring management-quota options directly, comparing your current seat against realistic Round 3 movement using the COMEDK College Predictor can help set expectations.
Reporting and fee-payment deadlines remain tight at this stage — typically just a few days after the Round 3 result — so candidates who receive an upgrade must act quickly. If Round 3 doesn't bring the outcome you want, one more round (Round 4) follows, along with a final Spot Admission stage; see our COMEDK 2026 final round guide for what to expect there.
Steps to Follow After Round 3 Result
Check Your Round 3 Allotment
Log in to comedk.org with your UGET registration credentials. Download your Round 3 allotment letter and check the allotted college, branch, and fee category.
Compare with Your Previous Seat
If upgraded, your earlier seat (Round 1 or 2) is released automatically once you accept the new one. If unchanged, your previous acceptance and payment carry forward.
Pay Fee Difference (if upgraded)
If you moved to a new college, pay any applicable fee difference and complete document re-verification within the given deadline — typically just a few days.
Select Upgrade or Freeze for Round 4
Freeze only if fully satisfied. Otherwise select Upgrade again to remain eligible for Round 4 — the last standard round before Spot Admission.
Report to the Allotted College
Report physically with all original documents (marksheets, COMEDK rank card, category certificates, photographs) within the reporting window stated in your allotment letter.
Who Participates in Round 3?
Chose Upgrade in Round 1 or Round 2
Automatically eligible — your current seat is retained as backup while COMEDK evaluates a possible upgrade.
Not allotted any seat in Round 1 or Round 2
Remain in consideration against the updated Round 3 vacancy list with no fresh registration required.
Froze a seat in Round 1 or Round 2
Locked out of Round 3 and all further rounds — admission is already confirmed.
Round 3 Strategy Tips
- Upgrade carries no risk at this stage either — continue selecting it unless you already hold your ideal seat.
- Expect movement mostly outside the top-tier colleges by Round 3 — flagship CSE/ISE branches are usually long filled.
- Only one more round remains after Round 3 — review our final round guide now so you're prepared for the last-chance dynamics.
- Act fast on fee payment and reporting — deadlines after each COMEDK round remain short throughout the process.
