Document verification is the stage where your COMEDK seat allotment becomes a confirmed admission, and it's a step many students underprepare for despite having done the harder work of clearing the entrance exam and choice filling. COMEDK institutes verify your original documents against what was submitted online during registration, and any mismatch — an incorrect name spelling, a missing signature, an unclear scan, or a document that simply wasn't prepared in advance — can delay your admission or, in more serious cases, put your seat at risk if you can't resolve the issue within the reporting window.

Because COMEDK has no domicile requirement, one common point of confusion for out-of-state candidates is assuming they need Karnataka-specific documents like a residence certificate — they don't, since COMEDK deliberately does not require any state-specific eligibility proof. This actually simplifies your document list somewhat compared to a state counselling system, but it makes getting your core academic and identity documents exactly right even more important, since there's no alternate quota route to fall back on if something in your primary documentation is incorrect.

Certain candidate situations require documentation that's easy to overlook until the last moment. Students with an academic gap year — whether for a drop year of preparation, health reasons, or any other cause — need a properly notarized gap certificate or affidavit well before reporting, since colleges will not accept a hastily arranged declaration at the verification counter itself. Similarly, students migrating from a state board other than Karnataka's should keep a Transfer Certificate and, where applicable, a Migration Certificate ready in advance, as these are commonly required during final institute-level admission formalities even though they aren't always emphasized during the online application stage.

NRI candidates face a somewhat more involved documentation process, since institutes need to verify both the candidate's and sponsoring parent/guardian's status clearly — passport copies, proof of NRI status, and supporting financial documentation are typically required in addition to the standard academic paperwork. Because NRI-category seats are often administered at the individual institute level rather than centrally through COMEDK's own portal, it's worth contacting your specific allotted college directly to confirm their exact NRI documentation requirements rather than assuming a single universal list applies across all COMEDK colleges.
