How to Fill Choices on comedk.org
Login to COMEDK Portal
Visit comedk.org and login with your registered credentials (application number and password). Ensure your profile is complete and documents are uploaded before choice filling opens.
Navigate to Choice Filling
Click on 'Choice Filling' in the counselling section of your dashboard. The portal displays all 170+ participating institutes with their available branches.
Search and Add Preferences
Search by college name, city (Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, etc.), or branch (CSE, ECE, ME, etc.). Click 'Add to List' to include a preference.
Arrange in Priority Order
Arrange choices from most desired (Rank 1) to least desired. Your top choice should be your dream college-branch, and subsequent choices should be in decreasing preference.
Save Frequently
Click 'Save' regularly to preserve progress. You can return and modify choices any number of times before the deadline.
Lock Before Deadline
Click 'Lock' to finalize choices before the deadline. If you do not lock, the system auto-locks with your last saved choices. Manual locking at least 12–24 hours before deadline is recommended.

Understanding the COMEDK Upgrade Option
In COMEDK Round 2, candidates who accepted a Round 1 allotment can opt for the Upgrade option. Here is how it works:
- Select 'Upgrade' during Round 2 registration to participate in Round 2 allotment.
- The system checks if any college-branch ranked higher than your Round 1 seat is available for your rank.
- If an upgrade is possible, you get the higher-ranked allotment automatically.
- If no upgrade is available, your Round 1 seat is retained — you do not lose it.
- You can also choose 'Retain' to keep your Round 1 seat without participating in Round 2.
- Always choose Upgrade unless you are 100% satisfied with your Round 1 allotment.
Common COMEDK Choice Filling Mistakes to Avoid
Filling Too Few Choices
Fill at least 50–80 preferences. More choices = better safety net. Never fill only 10–15 options.
Wrong Priority Order
Put your most desired college-branch at the top. Never put a backup above your actual preference.
Not Locking Before Deadline
Lock choices manually at least 24 hours before the deadline. Don't wait for auto-lock.
Ignoring Upgrade in Round 2
Always select Upgrade in Round 2 to potentially get a better college without risk.
Skipping Non-Bangalore Colleges
Colleges in Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli have great value and less competition. Include them as backups.
Not Verifying Branch Availability
Check that the branch you want is actually offered at the college. COMEDK portal shows available branches.
