About NIT Meghalaya
National Institute of Technology Meghalaya, established in 2010, is one of the newer NITs in India, set up as part of the government's initiative to establish NITs in every state. Located in Shillong, Meghalaya — the "Scotland of the East" — the institute offers a scenic campus environment in one of India's most beautiful regions.
While NIT Meghalaya is not yet NIRF-ranked (as a newer institute, it does not yet have sufficiently long data), the NIT brand still carries significant value — making it a viable option for candidates in the 30,000–55,000 JEE Main rank range who want to pursue engineering at a government-funded NIT.

- JEE Main rank 28,000–55,000 (OS): Competitive option through JoSAA or CSAB for CSE/ECE
- Meghalaya students (HS): Significant advantage — even much higher ranks can get CSE
- NE state candidates: CSAB NEUT round has even more relaxed cutoffs
- Priority: NIT brand over private colleges — NIT Meghalaya is preferable to most private engineering colleges even though it is a newer institute
- Consider: Location is remote, placement is growing but not yet as strong as established NITs
