Understanding JAC Delhi Counselling

JAC Delhi (Joint Admission Counselling Delhi) is the centralised counselling body that manages engineering admissions to Delhi's government-funded technical universities — DTU, NSUT, IIIT Delhi, IGDTUW, and DSEU — for candidates with a valid JEE Main rank. It exists as a state-level counselling process running parallel to JoSAA, giving Delhi Region candidates a dedicated 85% quota into these institutions, with the remaining 15% open to all-India applicants through the Outside Delhi quota. GGSIPU is a separate university with its own independent admission process and is not covered under JAC Delhi. This structure benefits Delhi residents considerably, since Delhi Region quota cutoffs at DTU and NSUT are consistently more relaxed than what an all-India candidate would need through the Outside Delhi quota at similarly ranked institutes.

The JAC Delhi predictor on this page works the same way as our main JEE Main college predictor — it compares your rank, category, and domicile status against previous year JAC Delhi closing ranks to estimate your realistic college options for 2026. Because JAC Delhi is a comparatively smaller counselling process than JoSAA, with a defined, more predictable pool of Delhi-domicile applicants, historical rank patterns tend to be fairly stable year over year, though some fluctuation is normal depending on the total number of registrants and any changes to the seat matrix.

JAC Delhi 2026 Key Information

  • Eligibility: Delhi domicile with valid JEE Main 2026 rank. Class 12 from Delhi school OR parents resident in Delhi.
  • Colleges covered: DTU, NSUT, IIIT Delhi, IGDTUW, and DSEU. GGSIPU is not covered — it runs its own separate counselling.
  • Counselling schedule: Expected July–August 2026, after JoSAA rounds conclude.
  • Seat types: Delhi candidates get separate quotas. OBC-Delhi, SC-Delhi, ST-Delhi categories have different cutoffs.
  • Key advantage: Top-ranked Delhi candidates can potentially get DTU/NSUT CSE with ranks that would only fetch mid-tier NITs in JoSAA.

Choosing Between DTU, NSUT, IIIT Delhi, and IGDTUW

Among JAC Delhi's participating institutions, DTU and NSUT are generally regarded as the two strongest options for core engineering branches, with DTU holding a slight edge in overall brand recognition due to its larger campus, longer history (formerly Delhi College of Engineering), and broader alumni network across the tech and consulting industries. NSUT, formerly known as NSIT, has built a comparably strong reputation, particularly among students targeting software and core electronics roles, and its placement outcomes are frequently on par with DTU's.

IIIT Delhi is the most research-focused and CS-specialised option under JAC Delhi, with the highest closing ranks of the group for CSE — its small seat count and tight CS/ECE focus make it comparable to a strong IIIT via JoSAA. IGDTUW (Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women) is a women-only institution and offers a distinct advantage for female candidates: since the competing applicant pool is limited to women, closing ranks at IGDTUW tend to be considerably more accessible than the gender-neutral seats at DTU or NSUT for comparable branches. Female candidates should always compare their JAC Delhi options across all these institutions, since IGDTUW admission can sometimes represent a stronger overall outcome than a gender-neutral seat at a marginally higher-ranked college.

When filling your JAC Delhi choices, list your genuine order of preference rather than only "safe" options — the counselling process allots based on the highest-preference choice your rank qualifies for, so an ambitious first choice does not reduce your chances at lower-ranked alternatives further down your list. Note that GGSIPU-affiliated colleges (USICT, MAIT, BVCOE, etc.) are not part of JAC Delhi — use the separate IPU CET/GGSIPU predictor for those options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about JAC Delhi College Predictor 2026

1
What is JAC Delhi and which colleges does it cover?
JAC Delhi (Joint Admission Counselling Delhi) is the centralised counselling for Delhi government engineering colleges. It covers DTU (Delhi Technological University), NSUT (Netaji Subhas University of Technology), IIIT Delhi, IGDTUW (Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women), and DSEU (Delhi Skill & Entrepreneurship University). GGSIPU runs its own separate counselling process and is not part of JAC Delhi.
2
Which rank is needed for DTU CSE in JAC Delhi 2026?
Based on JAC Delhi 2025 data, DTU CSE for Delhi home-state candidates requires a JEE Main CRL rank of approximately 3,000–5,000 (Delhi category). For NSUT CSE, expect a rank of 4,000–7,000. These are Delhi home-state quotas — only Delhi candidates can apply via JAC Delhi's Delhi Region quota (85% of seats); the remaining 15% Outside Delhi quota is open to all-India JEE Main qualified candidates.
3
Who is eligible for JAC Delhi 2026?
JAC Delhi's Delhi Region (85%) quota requires candidates to have passed Class 10 and 12 from a Delhi school or hold a Delhi domicile certificate. The remaining 15% Outside Delhi quota is open to all JEE Main qualified candidates nationwide, so candidates from other states can still apply for those seats.
4
Is DTU or NSUT better for CSE?
DTU (formerly DCE) and NSUT (formerly NSIT) are both excellent Delhi government engineering universities. DTU has a slight edge in brand recognition and campus size. NSUT has strong alumni in the tech industry. Both have comparable placement records with top tech companies. IGDTUW is exclusively for women and has excellent placements.
5
Does JAC Delhi cover GGSIPU colleges?
No. GGSIPU (Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University) runs its own separate admission process for its affiliated colleges (USICT, MAIT, BVCOE, MSIT, etc.), distinct from JAC Delhi. JAC Delhi covers DTU, NSUT, IIIT Delhi, IGDTUW, and DSEU only. Use the dedicated IPU CET/GGSIPU predictor for GGSIPU admissions.
