JEE College Predictor 2026 – JoSAA & CSAB Combined Guide

Understand how both counselling processes work and use the right predictor for each stage

How JoSAA and CSAB Fit Together

Every JEE Advanced and JEE Main qualified candidate aiming for an IIT, NIT, IIIT or GFTI goes through JoSAA first. JoSAA runs several rounds of seat allocation, each round refining allotments based on candidate choices and seat availability.

After JoSAA's final round, any seats at NITs, IIITs and GFTIs that remain vacant — due to withdrawals, upgrades, or no-shows — are pooled into CSAB Special Round. This gives candidates a second structured opportunity, typically in August, before the academic year begins.

Because cutoffs shift between these two stages, a single generic predictor is not enough — you need to check both JoSAA-stage and CSAB-stage rank requirements separately for an accurate picture of your options.

Which Predictor to Use

For IIT options, use the JEE Advanced College Predictor. For NIT/IIIT/GFTI options through the main JoSAA rounds, use the JEE Main College Predictor – JoSAA 2026.

If you need to explore CSAB Special Round possibilities, use the JEE Main College Predictor – CSAB 2026 tool, which reflects the typically higher closing ranks seen in the Special Round.

Frequently Asked Questions – JoSAA & CSAB Predictor

Common questions about using predictors across JoSAA and CSAB

1
What is the difference between JoSAA and CSAB?
JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) conducts the main counselling rounds for admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, typically running 5–6 rounds. CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) conducts a Special Round afterward to fill seats that remain vacant at NITs, IIITs and GFTIs after JoSAA concludes — CSAB does not allocate IIT seats.
2
Should I use a different predictor for JoSAA vs CSAB?
The underlying rank-to-college logic is similar, but cutoffs differ because CSAB works with the smaller pool of seats left vacant after JoSAA. We recommend checking both our JoSAA-based predictor and CSAB-specific predictor since closing ranks for the same institute-branch can differ notably between the two.
3
Can I apply to both JoSAA and CSAB in the same year?
Yes. If you don't get a satisfactory seat in JoSAA or have vacant preferences remaining, you can register separately for CSAB Special Round, which runs after JoSAA's final round concludes, typically in August.
4
Does CSAB cover IIT seats?
No. CSAB Special Round only covers NITs, IIITs and GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes). All IIT seat allocation happens exclusively through JoSAA.
5
Which predictor should I use first?
Start with the JoSAA-based college predictor since it covers the full counselling process and the widest set of institutes. If you still have unfilled options or a vacant seat situation after JoSAA, move to the CSAB predictor to check Special Round opportunities.
