About NIT Surathkal (NITK)
National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (NITK), established in 1960 as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC), is one of India's most prestigious engineering institutes. It is uniquely situated on a coastal campus in Surathkal, Mangaluru, with parts of the campus offering views of the Arabian Sea.
Ranked #14 in NIRF 2025, NITK is also designated as the DASA (Direct Admission of Students Abroad) nodal institute for NIT admissions — reflecting its administrative standing among NITs.
