JEE Advanced 2026 Exam Day Guidelines — What It Looked Like

JEE Advanced 2026 has already concluded. This page explains the general exam-day guidelines followed, as a reference for JEE Advanced 2027 aspirants.

This Is Archive Information

JEE Advanced 2026 was conducted in May 2026 and has already concluded. This page describes the general exam-day guideline pattern, not a definitive rulebook for a specific future year. JEE Advanced 2027 aspirants must check the official information bulletin and their admit card for the confirmed rules that year.

Reporting & Verification

Candidates were generally required to reach their allotted exam center well ahead of the shift's start time — commonly 60 to 90 minutes early — to complete frisking, biometric/ID verification, and seat allocation before the test began. Arriving late, even by a few minutes past the gate-closing time, has historically resulted in candidates being denied entry, as JEE Advanced enforces strict reporting deadlines.

Each candidate needed to carry their admit card printout along with one valid original photo ID proof (such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, driving license, or school/college ID as specified in the bulletin) for verification at the center.

Items Allowed vs Not Allowed

Generally Allowed

  • Admit card printout
  • Original photo ID proof
  • Simple transparent water bottle
  • PwD-approved aids (pre-authorized)
  • Personal medication, if declared/approved

Generally Prohibited

  • Mobile phones, smartwatches, wearables
  • Calculators, log tables, slide rules
  • Textual material, notes, paper
  • Metallic items (jewelry, belts, coins)
  • Bags, wallets, purses

* JEE Advanced is a computer-based exam with an on-screen virtual calculator and rough sheets provided at the center, which is why external calculators/paper are typically disallowed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about JEE Advanced exam day guidelines

1
What time did candidates need to report for JEE Advanced 2026?
JEE Advanced has traditionally required candidates to report to their exam center well before the shift start time — typically at least 60-90 minutes early — to allow time for frisking, seat verification, and settling in before the exam began. Exact reporting times were specified on each candidate's admit card.
2
What items were candidates allowed to carry into the JEE Advanced 2026 exam hall?
Generally allowed items included the admit card printout, a valid original photo ID proof, a simple transparent water bottle, and any specific PwD-support aids as approved in advance. Calculators, log tables, slide rules, and paper were generally NOT allowed since JEE Advanced is a computer-based test with an on-screen virtual calculator/scratchpad.
3
What items were prohibited in the JEE Advanced 2026 exam hall?
Prohibited items typically included mobile phones, smartwatches and other wearable devices, calculators, log tables, textual material/notes, metallic items (belts, jewelry, coins), wallets, bags, and any electronic gadgets not explicitly permitted. Candidates were generally advised to carry only the essentials to the center.
4
Was there a dress code for JEE Advanced 2026?
Yes — JEE Advanced has followed a general dress code across recent years recommending light, simple clothing without large metal buttons, buckles, or embellishments, along with rules for footwear. See our dedicated JEE Advanced dress code reference page for details.
5
Will JEE Advanced 2027 exam day guidelines be the same?
The broad structure (reporting early, ID verification, restricted items) tends to stay consistent year to year, but specific timings and rules can be revised. JEE Advanced 2027 aspirants should rely on the official information bulletin and admit card instructions for that year rather than assuming 2026 details apply exactly.
