Frequently Asked Questions – IIT CSE Cutoff 2026
Common questions about IIT Computer Science JEE Advanced rank requirements
1What JEE Advanced rank is needed for IIT Bombay CSE?
IIT Bombay CSE is the most coveted programme in India. In 2025, the closing rank (CRL) for IIT Bombay CSE was approximately 60–80. You need to be among the top 80 rankers in JEE Advanced to secure CSE at IIT Bombay. In 2026, similar cutoffs are expected.
2Which IIT has the lowest CSE cutoff?
Among all 23 IITs, the newer IITs (established post-2008) tend to have the highest (most lenient) CSE cutoffs. IITs like IIT Dharwad, IIT Tirupati, IIT Bhilai, IIT Jammu, IIT Palakkad, and IIT Goa typically have CSE closing ranks in the range of 3,000–6,000 CRL. This still requires a strong JEE Advanced performance.
3Is the IIT CSE cutoff the same for all categories?
No. JoSAA maintains separate cutoff ranks for General (CRL), EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwD categories. For example, at IIT Bombay, while General CRL closing rank for CSE is around 60–80, OBC-NCL closing rank may be around 30–40, SC around 300–400, and ST around 150–200 (these are reservation-category ranks, not CRL).
4Can I get IIT CSE with JEE Advanced rank 500?
With a JEE Advanced CRL rank of 500, you may be able to get CSE at IITs like IIT Roorkee (closing rank ~450-550), IIT Guwahati (~500-650), IIT Hyderabad (~400-600), or IIT (ISM) Dhanbad (~600-800). Top 5 IITs will likely be out of reach for CSE at this rank, but excellent options exist.
5When are JoSAA 2026 IIT CSE cutoffs officially released?
JoSAA 2026 IIT CSE cutoffs will be officially released after each round of counselling starting June 2026. Round 1 allotment results are expected in mid-June 2026. After all 6 rounds conclude (~mid-July 2026), the final closing ranks will be published on josaa.nic.in.
