How COMEDK UGET Counselling and Rank-to-College Logic Work
COMEDK UGET (Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka — Undergraduate Entrance Test) is a separate entrance exam from JEE Main, conducted by the COMEDK consortium itself rather than NTA. It is used specifically for admission to private engineering colleges in Karnataka that are members of the consortium, including well-known names such as R.V. College of Engineering, PES University, M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, BMS College of Engineering, and Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, among roughly 170+ participating colleges and over 190 affiliated institutions across engineering, architecture and other programs.
Separately, Karnataka also runs KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) through KEA (Karnataka Examinations Authority), which governs government-quota seats at the same colleges plus additional government and aided institutions. A candidate's rank-to-college mapping therefore depends on which exam and quota they are counselling under: COMEDK UGET rank applies to the COMEDK-managed quota (typically the majority of management-quota seats at private colleges), while KCET rank applies to the government-quota seats at those same colleges plus KCET-exclusive institutions.
The predictor's rank-to-college logic works by matching a candidate's COMEDK UGET rank and category against historical round-wise closing ranks recorded for each college-branch combination in COMEDK's own counselling rounds (which typically run for 2-3 rounds plus an extended/mock round). Because COMEDK allocation uses a choice-filling plus merit-rank system similar to JoSAA, a rank close to or better than a previous year's closing rank for a specific branch is a reasonable — though not guaranteed — indicator of eligibility.
