Eligibility to Register — the One Rule That Matters
AAT registration eligibility comes down to a single gate: you must have a valid qualifying rank in JEE Advanced of that year. There is no independent eligibility route into AAT — you cannot register based on a portfolio, drawing skill, or prior architecture background alone. Once JEE Advanced results are declared, the AAT registration link becomes visible only inside the accounts of candidates who cleared JEE Advanced; everyone else simply will not see it as an option.
This also means AAT registration eligibility is entirely independent of which branch or institute you eventually want for B.Tech. A candidate aiming for a B.Tech seat at any IIT can still register for AAT in parallel if they are also genuinely considering B.Arch — the two tracks do not conflict, and registering for AAT has no bearing on your B.Tech seat allotment through JoSAA.
Fee and Deadline — Why Speed Matters
The AAT registration fee is separate from, and in addition to, the fee already paid during JEE Advanced registration. It has historically been a modest amount with a category-wise structure (General/OBC-NCL/EWS versus SC/ST/PwD), payable online at the time of registration. Because fee amounts are revised periodically, the exact figure should always be confirmed live on jeeadv.ac.in rather than assumed from a previous year.
The deadline is the part candidates most often underestimate. In past cycles, the AAT registration window has stayed open for only one to two days after the JEE Advanced result. There is no advance-notice calendar date for this — it is triggered directly by the result declaration. Anyone even mildly interested in B.Arch should plan to check their JEE Advanced login the same day results are announced, rather than waiting a few days to make up their mind.
If You Miss the Window
There is generally no provision for late AAT registration. Missing the one-to-two-day window means you cannot appear for AAT that year, which in turn means you will not be eligible for B.Arch seat allotment through JoSAA counselling for that admission cycle — even if your JEE Advanced rank would otherwise easily secure a B.Tech seat. This is a hard cutoff, not a soft recommendation.
