Education Ministry releases NIRF Ranking 2025. IIT Madras tops again with 96.78 score. Complete list of top IITs, NITs, IIITs with ranking scores, positions and detailed analysis.
The Ministry of Education, Government of India, has released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 rankings for engineering institutions on August 5, 2025. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has retained the top position for the 7th consecutive year with an impressive score of 96.78 out of 100.
The NIRF 2025 rankings evaluated over 8,000 institutions across 11 categories including Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Law, and others. For engineering rankings, the framework considers five key parameters: Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI), and Perception (PR).
Complete Top 10 Engineering Institutions NIRF 2025: 1. IIT Madras (96.78), 2. IIT Bombay (95.12), 3. IIT Delhi (94.85), 4. IIT Kanpur (93.47), 5. IIT Kharagpur (92.89), 6. IIT Roorkee (89.34), 7. IIT Guwahati (88.76), 8. IIT Hyderabad (87.92), 9. IIT Indore (84.51), 10. IIT BHU Varanasi (83.28).
Top NITs in NIRF 2025 Rankings: NIT Trichy maintains its lead among NITs at overall rank 11 (score 82.45), followed by NIT Karnataka Surathkal at rank 13 (81.23), NIT Rourkela at rank 16 (78.92), NIT Warangal at rank 19 (77.54), and NIT Calicut at rank 20 (76.87).
Top IIITs Performance: IIIT Hyderabad continues to be the top-ranked IIIT at overall rank 26 with a score of 74.32. IIIT Delhi secured rank 38 (71.85), while IIIT Allahabad (Prayagraj) stands at rank 47 (69.21). IIIT Bangalore and IIIT Sri City also feature in the top 100 engineering colleges.
Key Highlights from NIRF 2025: IIT Madras achieved highest scores in Research and Professional Practice (98.2) and Teaching, Learning & Resources (96.5). The institute published over 2,500 research papers in top international journals in 2024-25. IIT Bombay showed the strongest performance in Graduation Outcomes with 98.5% placement rate.
