Why Official KEA Data Matters

Many KCET predictors use estimated or crowd-sourced data. Our predictor exclusively uses the official Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) closing rank documents published after each counselling round. These are the same ranks that determined actual allotments.

The official data covers all categories (GM, 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, SC, ST, Cat-1), both minority and non-minority institution seats, and all engineering branches for each college. This level of granularity produces far more accurate predictions than tools using aggregated estimates.

Frequently Asked Questions – Most Accurate KCET College Predictor

Common questions about KCET predictor accuracy and methodology

1
How is the accuracy of KCET college predictor validated?
We validate predictor accuracy by comparing 2024 predictions with 2025 actual KEA allotments. For top colleges (RVCE, MSRIT, PES), our predictions matched within ±1,500 rank for over 85% of branch-category combinations. For mid-tier colleges, accuracy is within ±4,000 rank for 80% of combinations. This validation process runs annually after KEA publishes official closing ranks.
2
Does the predictor use Round 1 or Round 2 data for KCET 2026?
Our predictor primarily uses KEA Round 1 closing rank data as it represents the initial competitive equilibrium. We also show Round 2 closing ranks for reference — these can be slightly more relaxed for some colleges as top candidates upgrade to better options. For 2026 planning, Round 1 data gives the safer (more conservative) estimate.
3
How do KCET cutoffs change between different rounds?
KEA Round 1 closing ranks are typically higher (lower rank number, more competitive). In Round 2, some seats from Round 1 allottees who upgrade become available again, sometimes at slightly relaxed cutoffs (higher rank numbers accepted). For competitive colleges like RVCE, the Round 1 and Round 2 cutoffs may differ by only 100–500 ranks. For less competitive colleges, the difference can be 2,000–5,000 ranks.
4
Are KCET predictions more accurate for government or private colleges?
Predictions are generally more accurate for government colleges (UVCE, GECE etc.) since their seat matrices are fixed and demand patterns are stable. Private college (RVCE, MSRIT, PES) predictions are also reasonably accurate since these top colleges have consistent demand. The least predictable category is mid-tier private colleges where seat additions, new branches, and changing reputation can affect cutoffs significantly year-to-year.
5
Can I rely solely on the predictor for KCET 2026 choice filling?
Use the predictor as a strong reference, not a sole determinant. For choice filling, also consider: (1) Compare predictions with 2–3 years of historical data; (2) Check if new seats or branches are added for 2026; (3) Visit college campuses or speak to current students; (4) Factor in your geographic preference and branch interest; (5) Fill 100+ choices in decreasing preference order to maximize chances.
