LPU vs Chandigarh University — Which Is Better in 2026?

Admission process, JEE Main eligibility, approximate fees, placements and campus life compared

LPU and Chandigarh University — Overview

LPU (Lovely Professional University), Phagwara, and Chandigarh University (CU), Gharuan/Mohali, are two of North India's largest private universities, both known for extensive marketing around placements and large-scale CSE intake. Both run their own entrance-cum-scholarship tests — LPUNEST for LPU and CUCET for CU — and both accept JEE Main scores as an alternate eligibility/scholarship route.

Neither university participates in JoSAA, CSAB or any state counselling process. Both manage admissions, seat allocation and scholarships independently through their own portals.

Which Should You Choose?

There is no universally "better" option between LPU and CU — both are comparable in scale, fee range, and the use of JEE Main for scholarship-linked admission. Base your decision on the specific branch/specialization you want, the scholarship percentage you qualify for based on your JEE Main rank or entrance test score, and recent official placement reports for your target branch rather than general brand perception.

Frequently Asked Questions — LPU vs Chandigarh University

Common questions comparing LPU and Chandigarh University for 2026 admissions

1
Which is better for B.Tech CSE — LPU or Chandigarh University?
Both LPU (Lovely Professional University) and Chandigarh University (CU) are large private universities in Punjab with strong CSE-focused marketing, their own entrance tests (LPUNEST and CUCET respectively), and JEE Main-linked scholarship schemes. Placement outcomes and fee structures are broadly comparable between the two; the better fit often comes down to specific programme specialization, scholarship eligibility, and campus preference rather than a clear overall winner. Compare current-year placement reports and fee charts from both official websites before deciding.
2
Do both LPU and Chandigarh University accept JEE Main scores?
Yes, both universities accept JEE Main rank/score as one of the eligibility and scholarship-determining routes for B.Tech admission, in addition to their own entrance exams (LPUNEST for LPU, CUCET for CU). Neither goes through JoSAA or CSAB — admissions are handled entirely by each university's own admission office.
3
How do fees compare between LPU and Chandigarh University?
Both universities have broadly similar B.Tech fee structures, approximately in the ₹1.8–2.8 lakh per year range before scholarships, with the effective fee reduced substantially for students qualifying for merit or JEE Main rank-based scholarships. Exact figures vary by programme and change periodically — verify current fee charts on the official LPU and Chandigarh University websites.
4
Which has a bigger campus — LPU or Chandigarh University?
LPU's Phagwara campus is frequently cited as one of the largest single university campuses in India by student population and infrastructure. Chandigarh University's Mohali/Gharuan campus is also large with substantial hostel and lab infrastructure. Both offer extensive residential campus facilities — visiting or researching current student reviews is recommended before making a final decision.
5
Does either university offer better placement than the other?
Both LPU and Chandigarh University publicize strong CSE placement statistics with recruiters spanning IT services and some product companies. Neither has a definitive, independently verified edge over the other — placement quality can vary by batch, branch and specialization. Review each university's official, year-specific placement report rather than relying on general reputation.
