JEE Main Marks vs Percentile 2026 – Score to Percentile Table

300 marks = ~100 percentile · 200 marks ≈ 97 percentile · 150 marks ≈ 88–92 percentile · Based on 2025 data

About NTA Score and Normalization

JEE Main 2026 uses the NTA score (percentile) — not raw marks — for ranking and cutoff purposes. Since the exam is held across multiple shifts and sessions, NTA applies an inter-session normalization process to ensure fairness.

The same raw marks can give different NTA scores in different sessions or shifts depending on the difficulty level and the candidate pool. A score of 170 marks in a particularly tough shift could yield a higher percentile than the same marks in an easier shift.

The table below is based on 2025 Session 2 data and is a useful guide. Exact values for 2026 will be available after official result declaration on jeemain.nta.nic.in.

Frequently Asked Questions – JEE Main Marks vs Percentile

Common questions about NTA score, marks to percentile conversion, and normalization

1
How is the NTA score (percentile) calculated in JEE Main 2026?
NTA score is calculated using inter-session normalization. The formula is: NTA Score = 100 × (Number of candidates who scored equal to or less than you in that session) ÷ (Total candidates in that session). This percentile then represents your position relative to all candidates. It is NOT the same as percentage of marks.
2
200 marks in JEE Main 2026 – what percentile is that?
Approximately 200 marks out of 300 in JEE Main 2026 corresponds to roughly 96–97 percentile, based on 2025 session data. The exact percentile depends on the difficulty level of your specific session and shift. A harder paper means fewer students score high, so the same marks can yield a higher percentile.
3
How does NTA normalization work across shifts?
NTA conducts JEE Main across multiple shifts. Each shift may have a different difficulty level. Normalization adjusts scores to account for this difference. If your shift was harder, your raw score is scaled up proportionally so that all candidates are compared fairly regardless of which shift they appeared in.
4
What is the difference between marks, percentile, and rank in JEE Main?
Marks are the raw score (0–300). Percentile (NTA score) is your position relative to all candidates in that session (0–100). Rank is your absolute position among all unique candidates across both sessions, factoring in the best percentile. A 99 percentile with 12 lakh candidates corresponds to roughly rank 12,000.
5
Can the same marks give different percentiles in Session 1 and Session 2?
Yes. The same raw marks can yield different NTA scores in different sessions because the difficulty levels differ and the candidate pool also varies. For example, 170 marks in a tough shift may yield 93 percentile, while the same marks in an easier shift might yield only 91 percentile. This is why normalization is applied.
