Frequently Asked Questions

How is JEE Main percentile calculated from marks?
Percentile is calculated as: (Number of students who scored equal to or less than your marks ÷ Total students in your slot) × 100. Our calculator uses score distributions from 1.2 lakh+ student submissions across all January and April 2026 slots, calibrated to match NTA's full candidate base.
Why do I need to select my exam slot?
JEE Main uses normalisation across shifts. A score of 150 in an easy paper and a tough paper result in different percentiles. Selecting your exact date and shift gives you an accurate slot-specific percentile rather than a generic estimate.
What is the difference between percentile and percentage in JEE Main?
Percentage = (Marks obtained / 300) × 100. Percentile = Percentage of students who scored equal to or below you. A percentile of 95 means you scored better than 95% of all students. NTA ranks students using percentile, not percentage.
How accurate is this percentile calculator?
The percentile is computed from 1.2 lakh+ student submissions then calibrated to reflect NTA's full candidate pool. It closely mirrors the actual NTA percentile but may differ slightly as the sample does not cover all 11 lakh students.
How is the expected rank calculated?
Expected rank = (1 − Percentile / 100) × Total students appeared. We use ~11 lakh for both Session 1 and Session 2. This gives an approximate overall rank across all shifts and sessions.
Which sessions does this calculator support?
This calculator supports all 10 slots of JEE Main January 2026 (Session 1) and all 9 slots of JEE Main April 2026 (Session 2) - covering every exam date and shift from Jan 21 to Apr 8.
