CSAB 2025 Data

CSAB 2025 Round 1 & 2 Results – Previous Year Analysis

Understand CSAB 2025 seat allotment patterns to build a smarter CSAB 2026 strategy.

CSAB 2025: Overview and Scale

CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) 2025 conducted two rounds of seat allotment in July–August 2025, after all 6 rounds of JoSAA 2025 concluded. CSAB is exclusively for seats in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs that remained vacant after JoSAA.

In 2025, approximately 2,000–3,000 seats were allotted in Round 1, with an additional 1,000–1,500 in Round 2. The bulk of available seats were concentrated in specific types of institutes — primarily North-East NITs and newer IIITs.

CSAB 2025 Closing Ranks vs JoSAA 2025 – The 10–15% Gap

One of the most useful findings from CSAB 2025 data is the rank gap between JoSAA and CSAB closing ranks. CSAB 2025 closing ranks were typically 10–15% numerically higher (worse) than JoSAA 2025 closing ranks for the same institute-branch-category combinations.

What this means in practice:

Example (General Category)JoSAA 2025 Closing RankCSAB 2025 Closing RankRank Gap
NIT Arunachal – CSE~85,000~97,000+~12,000
NIT Manipur – CSE~90,000~1,04,000+~14,000
NIT Nagaland – ECE~1,10,000~1,28,000+~18,000
IIIT Kota – CSE~55,000~63,000+~8,000
NIT Sikkim – Mechanical~1,05,000~1,19,000+~14,000

How to Use This for CSAB 2026

If JoSAA closes a particular NIT branch at rank 85,000 and your rank is 95,000 — you may have a realistic chance at that institute through CSAB 2026, since CSAB historically extends the closing rank by 10–15%. This is not guaranteed, but it is a logical basis for adding that choice in CSAB.

1
How many seats were filled in CSAB 2025 Round 1?
CSAB 2025 Round 1 filled approximately 2,000–3,000 seats across NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. The exact number varies because CSAB does not publish a consolidated seat count publicly, but analysis of seat matrix vs. allotment data suggests this range. The bulk of these seats were in North-East NITs, newer IIITs (opened post-2018), and GFTIs in less-demanded locations.
2
What is the key insight from CSAB 2025 data for 2026 planning?
The most important insight from CSAB 2025 is that closing ranks in CSAB were approximately 10–15% higher (numerically worse) than corresponding JoSAA closing ranks for the same institute-branch-category combinations. This means: if you could not get a particular NIT branch in JoSAA with rank 80,000, you might be able to get it in CSAB with the same rank — but only if it remained vacant. The availability of seats in CSAB is not guaranteed and varies significantly year to year.
3
Which institutes consistently have seats available in CSAB?
Based on 2023–2025 trends, the following types of institutes consistently have CSAB seats: NIT Arunachal Pradesh, NIT Manipur, NIT Meghalaya, NIT Mizoram, NIT Nagaland (all North-East NITs with lower demand), newer IIITs established after 2015 in smaller cities, GFTIs like NIT Puducherry, NIT Sikkim, and J&K institutes. Top NITs (Trichy, Warangal, Surathkal, Calicut) rarely have CSAB seats as they fill completely in JoSAA.
4
Are CSAB 2025 closing ranks available publicly?
Yes, CSAB publishes round-wise seat allotment data on csab.nic.in after each round. For 2025 data, you can access the official CSAB 2025 seat allotment PDFs published at csab.nic.in/csab2025. Additionally, several data compilation websites archive this data in searchable formats. When analyzing, make sure to look at the final round (Round 2) closing ranks, as Round 1 closing ranks are often revised in Round 2.
5
Should I rely on CSAB as my primary admission strategy?
No. CSAB should always be a backup to JoSAA, not a primary strategy. The key limitations of CSAB are: 1) Seat availability is uncertain — only leftover seats from JoSAA are available, 2) Only NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs are covered (no IITs), 3) Only 2 rounds vs. JoSAA's 5 rounds, 4) If you have a JoSAA seat and choose CSAB, you forfeit the JoSAA seat acceptance fee. Use CSAB as a genuine last-resort option if JoSAA did not deliver a suitable allotment.
