CSAB 2026 NEUT Counselling – North East & UT Seats

Supernumerary seats for North East India & Union Territory students in NITs and IIITs — domicile-based eligibility

What is CSAB NEUT Counselling?

CSAB NEUT (North Eastern states and Union Territories) is a special counselling round conducted by the Central Seat Allocation Board to increase representation of students from North East India and Union Territories in National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs).

CSAB NEUT seats are supernumerary — meaning they are created over and above the regular sanctioned intake. This ensures that NEUT admissions do not take away seats from general JoSAA/CSAB candidates. Students from NE states and UTs who meet the domicile requirement get access to NIT-level education even with relatively higher CRL ranks compared to the normal cutoffs.

The NEUT round is typically the last round in the CSAB process, conducted after the Special Round concludes. It is a significant opportunity for NE/UT students who may not have secured a seat in JoSAA or the CSAB Special Round.

Eligibility Criteria for CSAB NEUT 2026

To be eligible for CSAB NEUT 2026, a candidate must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Must be a permanent resident (domicile) of one of the eight North Eastern states (Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura) or a Union Territory of India.
  • Must have a valid JEE Main 2026 score and meet the minimum percentile threshold set for CSAB participation.
  • Must have appeared in Class 12 (or equivalent) from a school in the qualifying state/UT, or hold a domicile certificate from the competent authority.
