JEE Advanced Cutoff FAQs

Qualifying cutoff vs JoSAA OR-CR, rank list criteria, and how to use official cutoffs for 2026 planning.

1
What is JEE Advanced cutoff?
JEE Advanced cutoff usually refers to two things: (1) the qualifying cutoff (minimum marks/percent) required to be included in the rank list, and (2) the IIT admission cutoffs released through JoSAA as opening and closing ranks for each IIT, branch, category and round.
2
What is the qualifying cutoff for JEE Advanced 2026?
The qualifying cutoff for JEE Advanced 2026 will be announced along with the result. Until then, you can refer to the official 2025 qualifying marks shown on this page to understand the pattern.
3
Is qualifying cutoff enough to get an IIT seat?
No. Qualifying cutoff only puts you in the rank list. Admission depends on your JEE Advanced rank and the JoSAA opening/closing ranks for your preferred IIT, branch, category and round.
4
Where can I check official IIT opening and closing ranks?
JoSAA publishes official OR-CR (Opening Rank–Closing Rank) round-wise during counselling. Use the JoSAA OR-CR tool to filter by institute, program and category.
5
What does ‘closing rank’ mean in JoSAA OR-CR?
Closing rank is the last rank that got admission to a specific program for that category and round. It is usually the most useful number for shortlisting options.
6
Why do cutoffs change each year?
Cutoffs change due to number of seats, demand for branches, candidate preferences, category-wise participation, and the overall performance distribution in that year.
7
Which is better for planning: previous year cutoffs or expected cutoffs?
Previous year official OR-CR is the best reference. Use it to shortlist and keep backup options because cutoffs can move significantly between years and rounds.
